RESTRICTIONS RELAXED FOR GERMAN PRISONERS IN BRITAIN
(N.Z.P A. Special Correspondent.) (ltec. 10.30 a.m.) . LONDON, June 25. German prisoners of war, whose “ output is satisfactory ” will be allowed to draw part of their pay in sterling and to use shops, cinemas, restaurants, and public transport within five miles of their camps, said the Secretary of State for War, Mr F: J. Bellenger, in a statement to the House of Commons. This relaxation of restrictions was intended as an incentive to good' work, and will be subject to review in the light of experience. Prisoners employed on skilled work who work a 48-hour week at present are able to enrn 6s token money and 9s bonus credit. The prisoners will not be permitted to use licensed premises.
