Leading Swimmers to be Filmed A photographer appointed by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association will take a film of leading when the New Zealand senior swimming championships are held in Dunedin next February. The council wrote asking the Otago Swimming Centre, at its meeting last night, if a suitable out-door pool with clear water would be available for the taking of the shots, most of which would be in slow motion. The centre decided to invite the Taieri Amateur Swimming Club to place its baths at the disposal of the authorities. Scottish Societies' Street Day Badges with a reproduction on them of Viscount Montgomery will be sported by citizens to-morrow, wliendhe Council of Scottish Societies is conducting a street appeal for £I.OOO to assist financially a national movement to establish additional and more aip-to-date boys’ clubs throughout Scotland. Snow in Central Otago Falls of snow in the high country of Central Otago reached lower levels last night. The snow was not of any depth, and aS it was of the soft kind' it was not expected that it would lie for long. It was at its deepest in the Fruitlands district, two inches covering the main road near Shingle Creek. There was also snow on the Pigroot leading to Central Otago via Palmerston. Shipping and cargo statistics for the Port of Wellington for seven months ended in May, compared with the same period of the previous year, showed a decrease in shim arrivals and an increase in cargo handled (states a Press Association message). The net tonnage of vessels arriving was 1,922,790, compared with 2,010,234, a decrease of 87,438 tons. The manifest of tonnage of cargo increased from 1,301.973 tons to 1,327,927 tons, or by 25,954 tons. British and foreign cargo imports increased by 20,935 tons, and exports decreased by 28,652 tons. Australian and coastal cargo increased by 27,301 tons, and exports increased by 34,063 tons. Secretarial Institutes

The Chartered Institute of Secretaries of joint stock companies and other public bodies has merged with two Australian secretarial bodies, the Australasian Institute of Secretaries and the Institute of Incorporated Secretaries. The last two named will cease to exist, and there will be branches of the chartered institute in all main centres of Australia and New Zealand- Mr F. H. Bass, president of the New Zealand Division of the Australasian Institute, said, according to a Press Association message from Wellington, that the merger was expected to strengthen the status of secretarial work.
