BRITAIN'S MILK RATION REDUCED; MEAT STILL SHORT
«“• "■"•Wcos. «. The Minister of Food, Mr John Straohey, Announced a reduction in the milk ration from 3 to .24 pints. He forecast a bumper British apple crop of 434,000 tons, compared with 306,000 tons last year, and art average of 267,000 for 1936-46. He added that if supplies from the , United States, Canada, and the southern, dominions had to be reduced, Britain might easily have fewer apples despite the big Home crop. Mr Strachey said the meat position was still very tight, He would be unwilling to give any guarantee that the present ration of 16d worth weekly could be maintained during the second half of this year.
