FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

FORESTERS. The quarterly summoned meeting of Court Excelsior, Xo. 6,128, was held in the court room, Mornington, when O.R. JBro. Bryan G. Hay presided over a large attendance. I.P.D.C.R, Bro. A. W Jones and D.B. 'Bro. J. H. Holland attended from the District Executive and, acting as installing officers, invested the following in office for the ensuing term:—C.R., Bro. I. T. Scrivener; S.C.R., Bro. N. E. Jackson; I. Bro. B. G. Hay; S.W., Bro. H. N. Barkman; J.W., Bro. J. W. Garbutt; 5.8., Bro. G. C. Jackson; J. Rro. A. J. Patton; and min. sec., Bro. J. 0. Maydon. The district officers addressed the members following their welcome and toast, and Bro. A. W. Jones impressively rendered the fallen soldiers’ toast. Invitations were received from .Courts Woodlands Pride and Little John. P.CJR. Bro. Lister was warmly welcomed after a long absence. (Members were reminded of the juvenile meeting, and a report was received of the cricket match at Milton with--Court Pride of Bruce, which ended in a draw. Pride of Mornington Lodge, U.A.0.D., invited members to a bowls tournament on Thursday, April ,‘L The I.P.D.C.R. presented the H. L. Thomson Euclire Gup to Bro. H. X. Barkman, winner for 1946. Court Marion, Mosgiel, held its halfyearly meeting on Tuesday last, with, C.R. Sister J. Thomson in the chair. Eight members were reported on the sick list. The business.paper for the annual meeting, to be held at Invercargill, was discussed. Invitations -to be present at-social evenings weire received from Courts Little John and Woodlands Pride. One member tendered her resignation, • and the nomination of a new .’member was accepted. Two officers of the District Executive were present, and were given a .welcome. They installed the, officers, as nominated, for the next half-year. Each of the district officers gave a most interesting talk, appreciated very much liy those present. The acting N.G., Bro. W. Werges, presided over a full attendance .of officers and-members of Leith Lodge at the meeting on Monday, March»3. The auditors’, report was received, and general satisfaction was * expressed by members on the healthy state of the various lodge funds. Sick members were reported on, and arrangements were made for the payment. of sick benefits. Two . members applied for leave of absence from our next, and leave was granted. One new member was initiated and welcomed to lodge membership. .Bro. Gearing, Pioneer Xo. 1, responded to the visitors’ toast. . DRUIDISM. Arch Druid Bro. A. C. Williams presided over the fortnightly meeting of Otago Lodge, held in the Kaikorai Band hall on Monday, March 24. District President Bro. Johns .paid an official visit,: and on . being presented with the gavel carried .out the working of the lodge in an efficient hnd effective manner. The business paper for the Grand Lodge session received a lot of discussion. The bards reported an tile sick brethren, and £9 10s sick pay was passed-for payment. JUvInILE FORESTERS. . Court Maid Marion, Mosgiel, held its usual meeting last Thursday, with C. R. I. Graham' in the chair. Invitations were received from juvenile Oddfellows ' and from Court Prince Edward to be present at socials. At the close of the meeting games were played. INDEPENDENT ORDER 6f ODDFELLOWS. N.G. Bro. S. Foote presided over a good attendance of members and visitors at the last-meeting of Leith Lodge No. 4,1.0.0. F. A report by the Sick Visiting Committee disclosed that the various sick members were progressing favourably, and necessary sick pay was attended to.' Seven members received their degrees at the hands of the acting degrees master, Bro. M. K. Glover. Satisfaction was expressed at .the keen interest shown bv the' younger members. The D.D.G.M., Bro. F: Bohm, and Bro. J. Skipwortli, Tahakopa Lodge No. 91, responded to the visitors’ toast. -
