HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES RIDERS IN GREAT EASTER > (Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 2. Indian Sign, who lias been mostly trained on , the New Brighton Beach, was railed sopth yesterday to fulfil his steeplechase engagements at the Riverton meeting. R. Hawes has been engaged to ride him. Indian Sign Bid not impress by his schooling display at Riccarton last week, and the Southland opposition may be beyond him. Roman Son was to have made the trip to Riverton, but after his disappointing display last week the arrangements were cancelled. K. Thomson was to have ridden him, but will now be on hand to ride Lunaria in Monday’s hurdle race at Riccarton. C. T. Wilson will be at Riverton on Saturday to ride Pensacola, Special Plight, Vella Lee, and Bath Slipper, and will return for Monday’s programme at Riccarton. Wilson has been engaged for Brown Derby in the Great Easter Handicap. Other riders listed for this race are:—Bruce: L. Ellis. Red Pickle: R. J. Mackie. Lexia: L. J. Oiutterbuck. Voltaic: W. J. Broughton. Whitley: C. McDonald. Privilege: A. C. Messervy. Palomino: M. Jones. Revolt: G. Hampton. Cipher: A. M. Ellis. Provision has been made to run the Russley Handicap a,t Riccarton next Monday in two divisibns, as the acceptances exceeded the safety number for the five-furlong barrier by two. Nights Ops was withdrawn from the race yesterday, so there is not much likelihood of the race being divided. Night Ops was also taken out of the Champagne Stakes, as was her stable mate, Blithe Spirit. Big Top and Great Legend were companions over two hurdles at Riccarton to-day; the former giving a dashing display. He has become more solid than formerly, and following his successful effort on the flat ( at Waimate, he will be in advanced order for Monday’s hurdle race.. The Canterbury Jockey Club has decided that in future entries for classio races will be taken on general entry day for the meeting at which the events are to be held. A three-strand barrier will be used for the first time at next week’s Easter meeting, at Riccarton instead of the single-strand type in use for many years past. The big Defaulter gelding Wane is included in the growing'list of jumping recruits at Riccarton. 1 He was given some schooling to-day with Night Prince and shaped satisfactorily. Brackets at Riccarton on Monday will be: —Champagne Stakes: General Argosy and Ned Kelly. Courtenay Handicap: Pacific Star and Leighmond. Russley Handicap: Waveloch and Agenda, Loohrea and Maka Maka, Paper Robe and White Night. Papanui Handicap: Peculate and Dress Rehearsal. Opulent, Voltaic, Lowry Bay, Gay Stroller, Garry, and Catterick Bridge have arrived at Riccarton.
