CROMWELL MEETING BIG RAGE TO ROBERT TWO DOUBLE WINNERS: KASSAI AND SILVERSTREAM The most successful, meeting ever held by th 4 Cromwell Jockey Club was; concluded l on Saturday, when the second day of the annual meeting was held. Although the finishes were not so close as on the first day, the racing was .full of interest. The track was in good order. With the exception of the Farewell Handicap, in which a close finish resulted!, the races were won decisively. Three favourites were successful, and the dividends were mostly small. Silverstream and Kassai were the only ,horses to win a double, The hurdler, Robert, surprised in the big race by beating the favourites, Salad and Gold Lance, decisively. Robert secured a good run throughout, and, after following the leaders into'the straight, he drew away. The totalisator handled £10,006 10s compared with £9,240 on the corresponding day last year. Passing the fivefurlong post Kassai was shading Winning Cheer, with Banco and Ara Chi.ef, next.. Kassai drew out in the straight to win by five lengths, while Winning Cheer hung oh to beat Banco by a neck. Count Roger finished on for fourth ahead of King’s. Victory.

After being kept waiting in behind the leaders until - the straight was reached, Grattan Lee drew out to win

the Bannockburn Trot by a clear margin. Arawa Lad was first to show out, but when the field settled down at the end of three furlongs Interlace was showing the way to Minstrel Hall, Roseland Hall, Arawa ' Lad, and Grattan Lee. The remainder were well back. The order was unchanged until the straight was reached, and Grattan Lee then drew away to win by four lengths, with Minstrel Hall a length ahead of Roseland Hall. Interlace and Arawa. Lad were next to finish.

Agility stood at the barrier, and nothing got away better than Cold Feet, who opened up a gap from Sandy’s Pride over the first furlong. Cold Feet was still three lengths clear of Minstrel Light turning for home, with Robot and Great Chase doing best of the remainder. Minstrel Light beat Cold Feet by a length and a-half, while Robot was half a length away. Great Chase was a good fourth.

Scratchings reduced the President’s Handicap to three runners, and, when Silverstream received the best pf the start, he made a one-horse race of it. Soft Light was slow to move, and Silverstream immediately opened up a gap on his rivals. He was still clear when the straight was reached, and came on to win by three lengths. AlcDonald Memorial H&ndicap decisively without being ridden out. From a good start Sailor's Pal took up the running, and he was followed by Gnohill, Robert, and Gold Lance for the first mile. Robert then challenged, and drew away to win by three lengths from Salad, who beat Gold Lance by three-quarters of a length. Sailor’s Pal whs fourth, well clear of Gnohill.

Times: 2.14 4-5,* 2.15 4-5, 2.16. • Tayside waited behind Sir Hall until the three furlong post was reached, and then took the lead and was not troubled in the run home. Sir Hall, Tayside, Arawa Lad, and Duncraig soon sorted themselves out, and were well clear, of the remainder all the way. Sir Hall tired at the end of half a mile, and Tayside finished best to win by five lengths. Duncraig beat Sir Hall by three lengths for second, and then came Arrow Top and St. Phils.

Gold Spur was still two lengths clear wlwm the straight was reached, but quickly gave way in the run home. A close finish resulted with Red Prize gaining the verdict from Welcome Light and Banco, with Amicus fourth.
