BORMANN IN SYDNEY.

STOP PRESS

SYDNEY. March G.—The claim that lie saw Martin Bormunn; formerly Hitler’s deputy, in Elizabeth street, is made by Mr Joseph Keenan, former general secretary of the Australian Seamen’s Union. Keenan said lie first met Dormann at a conference of waterside -workers and seamen in Hamburg in 1932, to which Keenan went as delegate from the Australian union and Communist Party. Bormann was the delegate of the Nazi Party, which at that time claimed to be willing to work in co-operation with ■workers’ organisations. Of the recent encounter Keenan says: “I would bet all the tea in China that the man I saw in Elizabeth street to-day was Hermann. He, was wearing glasses and had a portfolio under his arm. He was getting into a ear. I hailed him in German and gave the clenched fist salute. He-got into the car quickly .and drove away.”

SALVAGE OF WANGANELLA

It is reported that the Wellington Harbour Board made a substantial concession in the Wanganella costs by. waiving under its by-laws and regulations the additional docking costs which can accrue after a ship has been docked more than 1G days, from 4d a ton gross to 2d. Though estimates hare been made that the cost of repairing the Wanganella will be £390,000, with an additional £60,000, the cost of salvage, it is still too early to make reasonably certain estimates, let alone official ones.—Press Association.
