Plant Life Affected
Abnormalities in Japan Latest Atomic Bomb Aftermath (Rec. I p.m.) TOKIO, March 4. Mr W. M. Myers, agricultural expert on General MacArthur’s staff, revealed to-day that abnormalities had been discovered in plant life near Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Seeds were affected by the atomic bomb explosion, although they were not entirely sterile, but the indications were that plant sterility could be caused by atomic explosions resulting in “ a foodless world.
Mr Myers expressed the opinion that “ future generations of plants as well as current plant life could suffer from atomic radio activity, and if a gigantic world-scale atomic war occurred, plant life would suffer from radio-active dust particles thrown into the air. Not only would existing crops be affected, but succeeding crops would be likewise.
