ICE-BREAKERS' SCANT PROGRESS

SERIOUS BLOCKAGE ON RHINE

(llec. 8 a.m.) BERLIN, Feb. 18. Twenty-four Dutch ice-breakers tackling 75 miles of solid ice on the Rhine between Montgomery Bridge at Wesel and the mouth of the Rhine, have made little progress. Dynamite will probably be needed to clear the ice jams when the thaw comes, thus closing Montgomery Bridge to traffic. This and the Patton Bridge at Cologne are the only two Rhine bridges in use.
