Moving the adoption of the report at the annual meeting of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals yesterday, the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron), who presided, said the. society was to be commended for acquiring a property of 23 acres at Qpoho for the erection of kennels and a home for injured or sick animals. The society wa6 already doing much valuable work, and he hoped that the public would take a greater interest in the work of the society. Sixty-seven cases of alleged cruelty to animals were investigated by the society’s inspector in 1946, against 53 in 1945, 41 in 1944, and 33 in 1943. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr W. Downio Stewart (re-elected); vice-presidents— Messrs R. .Fountain, R. 1). Stewart, and W. J. Crawford; hon. treasurer, Mr T. Irvine; committee —the Mayor (Mr Cameron), Messrs M. C. Henderson, L. M. Wright, J. Black, A. Clark, G. Matheson, J. Bews, J. B. Deaker, !R. T. Kirk, R. Stevenson, A. de Beer, J. Winter, and H. H. Henderson. Mr J. B. Deaker moved the adoption of the revised set of rules which, he said, complied with the Incorporated Societies Act. The motion was carried, and it was decided to have the society incorporated. Mr Deaker was thanked for his work in revising the rules.
