KEW BUS SERVICE

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l am very interested to read in the Press about Dunedin’s corporation transport. “ Observation tours ” buses leave Town Hall daily at 2 p.m., also Saturday and Sunday \ yes, and even advertising over the air from 4ZB on Friday nights buses for Highcliff Sunday afternoons. We now read about the visiting warship that on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons the City Corporation will provide buses. The Kew ratepayers and householders quite agree with the arrangements and hospitality for the ship’s company during their short stay in Dunedin, and wish them all the best. Now, what with the bus service and the tram service, and the trolly bus arguments, I think it is time the public nominated some, of our younger generation to the Trans-’ port Committee. The ratepayers and householders of Kew, hundreds living all over the estate by the golf links, have to walk to and from work, and we returned invalid soldiers, some with only one leg, have to struggle in pain to get lip the hill. The chairman and committee had an interview with some of these men at the Transport Committee room to explain the true facts to them over two weeks ago. Now we challenge the manager of the transport department and committee to meet some of the men at Forbury Corner at 5 p.m., 5.30 p.m., or 6 p.m., and have a walk up the hill to Isadore road in pouring rain.

Don’t forget, Mr Transport Manager, that buses do not run up Kew on Sunday, and one leaves Water street at 12.15 p.m., Saturday. So you realise if any of our ratepayers and householders go visiting the Hospital to see their ioved ones they have to walk down and up the hill. Tt is time we had a change over from the transport.—l am, etc., Uno.
