VOTING IN CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY 6INGREBB DECISION LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR MOSLEMS (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 7. Commenting on the All-India Congress Committee’s adoption, after a nine-hour debate, of a' resolution accepting the British Government’s statement of December 6 on the procedure for voting in sections of the Constituent Assembly, -the New Delhi correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ emphasises that both the debate and voting figures revealed a sharp cleavage of views within the committee, and it was apparent that a large section of Congress opinion was averse to the course of action now officially adopted. The main reason for its adoption, the correspondent points out, was to leave the door open for the Moslem League to enter the Constituent Assembly and assist in the constitutionmaking task. But, he adds, it was doubtful whether the resolution as now passed was couched in sufficiently generous or liberal terms to persuade the Moslem League of the wisdom of accepting the bona fides of the Congress Party and entering the Assembly. The general trend of the debate, too, would hardly reassure the Moslem League, for most speakers asserted in effect that the British Government was insincere and that the league was acting as a tool of British imperialism.
