CABINET STRENGTH
MR GHIFLEY MOVES FOR 19 MEMBERS (Rec. 11.35 a.m.) , CANBERRA, November 22. Mr Chifley, in the House, introduced a Bill to maintain the Federal Cabinet’s wartime strength of 19 Ministers. It was previously indicated that some of the recenly appointed Ministers would lose their portfolios unless action along the lines now proposed was taken. Mr Chifley said the Bill was justified by the continuous growth of the. Commonwealth activities and the additional work imposed on Ministers compared with pre-war years. The Bill provides for 19 Ministers and an annual remuneration at £21,250.
