SANDERS CUP TRIAL
FIRST RACE TO BE RESAILED WINNER'S SPORTING OFFER At a meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association, held last night, it was agreed to resail the first trial race for the selection of the provincial representative in the Sanders Cup contest. The president (Mr R. E. Ham) was in the chair. ' A letter was received from Mr R. F. Todd, owner-skipper of Evelyn, which won the two first trials, in which he stated that as a result of the unavoidable incident at the start of the first trial on Saturday last lie felt’ that the race did not develop into a fair trial for the purpose of selecting a representative boat and crew. Consequently lie offered to forfeit his win in tliat race and felt that by doing so lie was acting in the interest of the sport in general, besides giving the judges a better opportunity of running the series to the satisfaction of all participants. Several delegates spoke in appreciative terms of tbe sporting spirit behind this offer, and after a short discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr C. Smith, to uphold the decision of the judges in that race, but in view of the letter received from Mr Todd, and of the co-operative spirit of the owners of the other two placed boats, that the race be resaiied. An appeal from Mr T. Camp, ownerskioper of Manabi, which finished second in the trial, against his disqualification by the sailing judges was dismissed. . The meeting agreed that m future the rule providing for an inspection of all Z class boats before and after trial races be enforced. It was also decided that the N and I class boats placed first and second in each trial be inspected immediately after the race.
