COAL STOCKS PERMIT LARGE AUGMENTATION «

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 4. The Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, announced to-day that the improved coal stocks would enable the department ,to provide better holiday travelling facilities this year. The morning expresses between Christchurch and Invercargill

would be ruh daily from December 17 to January 11, supplemented on selected days by expresses between Christchurch and Dunedin.- The Dunedin-Christ-church night express would be run on December 20, 21, 22 (from Invercargill),; 23, 24, 27, and 29 (from Invercargill), and January

2,3, 4, 5 (from Invercargill), 9,10, and 12 (from Invercargill), with

sleeping accommodation Sundays only. Expresses between Christchurch and Greymoutli, Dunedin, and Invercargill, and Dunedin and Cromwell would be run daily from _ December ' 18' to January 11. Additional night trains would be provided between Christchurch and Greymoutli on Christmas Eve. The Christchurch-Picton expresses would be run daily from December 20 to January 6. From November 11 to January 12 applications may be made for reservations up to one calendar month ahead of the travel date. From December 1„ the Minister said, the principal expresses in the North, Island, except the Main Trunk, will run thrice a week instead of twice,' and a number of subsidiary long-dis-tance trains will be run. Limited expresses will run between Auckland and Wellington on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays, Sunday trains will be resumed in the Hutt Valley and the Wel-lington-Paekakariki • Sunday services will be increased.

Mr Semple said that the Limited on the North _ Island Main Trunk would be run daily except on . Saturdays, from December 13 to January 13, reverting thereafter to thrice a week, hut sleeping accommodation would be available on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays only. There would be six trains each way on the Auckland-Wel-lington service on Friday, December 20, three on December 21 and 22, and four on December 24.

Expresses on the other principal North Island routes would be run daily from December 16 to January 11, with additional relief trains on selected days for the holiday peak traffic.
