CITY RESERVES.

TO THE EDITORSir—The Ocean Beach Domain Board intends removing the frees fronting Victoria road from Bird street to Moreau street. This evidently is to give sufficient room for the Tennis Union’s new courts. The beautiful belt of trees, along with its bird life, is to be sacrified to enable a few youths to play tennis. These trees have taken many years to grow, and they act as a

wind and sand break to the St'. Kilda ratepayers living in the vicinity. AYe often read in the papers of acts of vandalism, but surely no act of vandalism is worse than this. Evidently the Tennis Union must have a. strong pull somewhere, as it seems able to get all it‘ wants. Eight throughout the years protests have been made regarding the taking of our reserves for private purposes, but all these protests are useless. Next year the croquet club, already on the domain, is taking another big slice to extend its lawns, and I also understand there is a Scout hall to be erected near the St. Clair end. Soon there will be no park fronting Victoria road from the St. Kilda tram terminus to St. Clair. Surely the St. Kilda Borough Council or the Arflenities Society should take some action before it is too late.— I am, etc., St. Kilda. October 16.
