MURDER OF SERGEANT

STERN GANG ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY (Ree. 11.40 a.m.) JERUSALEM, Sept. 11. The Stern Gang, in a “communique ” posted up in Tel-Aviv, took responsibility for murdering Sergeant T. G. Martin, of the C.I.D. in Haifa, on September 9, and for attacking the area security office in Tel-Aviv on the same day in which Major Desmond Doran was killed and his wife seriously injured. ' An earlier message said that Sergeant Martin is believed to be the first of seven British members of the Palestine police force named on the terrorist death list. The remaining six are. probably the only officials in Palestine capable of identifying the terrorists who three years ago escaped from Latrun camp through a secret tunnel. 1
