Air Passengers.— Passengers from the north on Wednesday were: Mr R. Easte, Mr P. J. Gill, Miss A. Thomson, Mrs C. Fal'coner, Mr Grace, Mrs F. M. Tomkinson, Mr B Brooks, Mrs W. Passengers for the north to-day were Mr H. Waymouth, Mr E. Hollander, Mrs (M. Drew, Mr R. A. Hayman / (Christchurch), Mr Vugler, Mr J. C. Watt. Mr. G. ; McKay , Mr J. Hainsworth, Miss L. Hanna, Mr N. Carter, Mrs N. Carter (Wellington), Miss (M. Crawford, Miss J. McKenzie, Mrs I. Hall (Auckland).

Mr A. H. Jeavons left this morning for Auckland. Mr Walter IRussell-Wood returned yesterday from Wellington. Mr G. L. Claasen, who, before entering the Air Force in August, 1941, was employed as a traffic inspector by the Dunedin City Corporation, has resigned to accept a similar position with the Auckland City Council. Mr J. Simpson, chief inspector at. the General Post Office, Wellington, and ' Mr O. J. Mullins, deputy director of accounts, arrived from Invercargill today on departmental business. They will leave for the north to-morrow. ' Mr Bryan Drake, the well-known Dunedin baritone, has been engaged to sing in presentations of the ‘ Messiah ’ lh Christchurch, Timaru, Invercargill, and Dunedin. The performances will begin at the end of November. Dr Alan Wardale, who has been appointed ear, nose, and throat specialist at the Dunedin Public Hospital, arrived in Dunedin from England yesterday to take up his duties. He was met on his arrival by Dr James Thomson, medical superintendent of the Hospital; and Mr John Jacobs, secretary of the Otago Hospital Board Mr J. T. R. Oliver, honorary organiser of the Dominion-wide appeal for funds for the establishment of a post-graduate chair of obstetrics and gynaecology at the new women’s hospital at Auckland, arrived • in Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon. He addressed a public meeting in the City Council Chambers this morning. Mr George London has been selected as the National Party candidate for Petone. A former mayor of Petone' : and serviceman of. the recent war. Mr London is a prominent figure in local body and sporting activities in the Hutt Valley. He. was at one time chairman of the Hutt Valley Power Board. Mr L. T. Jacobsen, a member of the Wellington City Council, has been chosen as the National Party’s candidate for the Miramar seat. Mr Jacobsen contested the Wellington East seat at the last 'General Election.; The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr G. F. Bothamley, will be retiring on October 31 next on superrannuation. He succeeded Mr T. D. Hall on July 1 last year, after having occupied the post of clerk assistant for 12 years. Mr Bothamley is in his fortieth year in the Public Service, the whole of which he has spent in the Legislative Department.—Parliamentary reporter.
