CHILD SMOTHERED. Catherine Mary Woodhouse, a baby, aged nine months, was smothered last night in her home at Roxburgh In the absence of her mother, the child was left m the care of an elder sister, aged 20. She. was fed between 6.30 and 7.30 last night, and the sister then left the house for a short period When she returned, at 9 o’clock, she found the child With her head in the pillow, and apparently lifeless. A doctor was called, and he pronounced life to be extinct.
