EFFECT ON THE CHILD MIND GD9D ONES INDUCE READING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. A really good comic paper was not harmful, and might prove an inducement to children to read, said Mr A. F. McMurtrie, Assistant Director of Education, at a meeting of the Wellington School Committees and Educational Association. Comics might add a few queer words to a child’s vocabulary, and the worst type of comics might have some passing effect, he added, but he did not think they had a lasting, harmful effect.
