CONTEMPT OF COURT
WOMAN REFUSES TO GIVE EVIDENCE MELBOURNE, September 9, A woman who refused to give evidence at an inquest at Geelong to-day in what is known as the Barwon River case was charged with contempt of court and committed in custody until to-morrow, when the inquest will be resumed. The woman was Mrs 'Cherie Evelyn Morris, wife of Horatio Raymond Morris, who, with Edward George Carr, is charged! with the murder of .William Stewart Sheargoldi and Ernest Frederick Dew, whose bodies were taken from the Barwon River, near Geelong, on July 14. The inquest had been proceeding for several days when Mrs Morris was called this morning. She refused to answer questions either by the police inspector or by the coroner, even after being warned by the coroner that he could take notion to oompel her to answer. The coroner granted an adjournment until this afternoon in order to permit her to consult her solicitor. When the inquest was resumed die still refused on the ground that she might incriminate herself. The inquest was then adjourned until to-morrow.
