EXPORTS HIGH
BRITAIN'S SECOND QUARTER ALMOST EQUAL TO 1938 PERIOD (Rec. 11.20 a.m.) / JLONDON, July 19. Britain's exports for the second quarter of 1946 were £219,000,000, which was £35,000,000 more than for the first quarter, and almost equal in volume to the corresponding quarter of 1938. Machinery and vehicles, each £26,000,000, iron and steel and the manufactures from them, £22,000,000, were the principal contributors to the most recent quarter's total. Retained imports for. the second quarter were valued at £308,000,000, which was £42,000,000 higher than for the first quarter Food, drink, and tobacco £157,000,000, raw materials £89,000,000, and manufactures £54,000,000 were the principal imports.
