—Vice-Regal.— The Governor-General, Lieutenantgeneral Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg, accompanied by their staff, will leave Wellington by steamer express on Julyl. They will pay .short official visits to Christchurch and Dunedin and will return to Wellington on July 7.

—Ministerial.— The Minister of Defence (the. Hon. F. Jones) was engaged to-day in de-, partmental business in Dunedin, .and will leave for the north by air to-mor-row morning. j Mr L. V. Blaikie ? formerly of the King Edward Technical College, Dunedin, • has been appointed assistant master in commercial subjects at the Southland Boys’ High School. Mr Blaikio is at present relieving at the latter school.

Stewart has relinquished his temporary position on the lecturing staff of Massey Agricultural College to proceed to Oxford University, where he will take up the Rhodes scholarship awarded to him to 1941. Mr Stewart, who is’a former student of ‘ Massey College, had several years of war service with the British Navy. He was well known as a footballer, having represented Manawatu on many occasions.

Mr F. H. Pearce, electrical engineer to the Bluff Borough Council, has been appointed engineer to the Otago Electrical Power Board. Mr. Pearce began his training in Dunedin. After his return from World War I. he was for some time with the .Great* Western Power Company, California. Returning to New Zealand, he was associated 1 with Parkinson’s (N.Z.) Ltd., Invercargill, and the Southland Electric Power Board at Monowai before taking'
