MEN'S BASKETBALL
OTAGO DEFEATS CANTERBURY By defeating Canterbury ajj Christchurch yesterday at men's basketball, Otago won the South Island championship, which was competed for for tha first time. Otago did not take.the lead / until the last few minutes of an exciting game, which was won 30-25. The feature of the match was the. performance of the Otago captain (A. S. Mills), who gave a superlative display, and was really responsible for; the win. In the last three minutes of the game he called a time out, and rallied the rest'of the team for the successful final effort. In view of the pending New Zealand men's championship, the form of Otago was particularly satisfactory. The best attacking players were M. Myles, L. Williams, and R/ Darracott. At defence N. Roberts and the captain were prominent. Three of the team were returned servicemen.
