CITY COUNCIL PROPOSALS KAIKORAI VALLEY BOAD AREA Under the authority of the Dunedin City Empowering Act, 1945, arrangements are being made to develop an area of approximately 53 acres hounded hv Kaikorai Valley road and Kenmure road, reports the Works Committee. ’ The owners concerned have been advised of the council’s proposals, and instructions have been given for the preparation of the necessary plans to permit the land to be taken under the Public Works Art. and for the preparation of roading and development estimates to enable the authority of the Local Government Loans Board to be obtained. TRANSIT CAMP. The Finance Committee of the City Council reports that it has negotiated with the owner of the property at Tomahawk on which is situated the portion of the military camp required for transit housing purposes, and advice has been received from his solicitors to the effect that he is not prepared to grant the council a lease of the area in view of the fact that he has not reached any finality with the Army Department relative to his claims against that department. Further representations have therefore been made to the Commissioner of Works and the Minister of Defence that the settlement of the owner’s claims be expedited. Until this aspect, of the matter is cleared up council is unable to make any further progress in the matter.
