FRENCH BANKER MISSING
FORTUNE IN GEMS AND ART TREASURES PROBLEM FOR CANADIAN OFFICIALS VANCOUVER, April 24. Customs officials are faced with' the problem of disposing of over 500,000 dollars' worth of Oriental gems and art treasures which a French banker, M. Henri Bar, was taking home to France from Shanghai in a small freighter which has just arrived at Vancouver. M. Bar did not return from a walk on deck when the vessel was six days out from Shanghai, and it was thought that he had fallen overboard during the rough weather. The French Consul at Vancouver said M. Bar was head of the Franco-Chinese Bank at Shanghai. He was a widower, whose only son was killed during the war. There were no known heirs. Under Canadian law, if no heir is found the treasures should be kept for 30 days and then_ placed under King's bond, to be (motioned later, the proceeds to go to the Canadian Government.
