Marshal Chiang Kai-shek has postponed the convocation of the National Assembly, originally scheduled to meet on May 5 at Nanking to consider Chinas new Constitution. This prompted the widespread belief that a compromise is,near on the Manchurian civil war and other internal problems, as the Communists had demanded a postponement. The Associated Press correspondent says it is known that General Marshall is exerting heavy pressure on both Marshal Chiang Kai-shek and General Chou En-lai for a compromise settlement.
