April 27.—Avondaie Jockey Club. April 27.—Southland Racing Club. April 27, 29.—Nelson Jockey Club. Starting Times. The first race at Riverton on Saturday is timed to start at 11.30. Riccarton will commence at 11.2 on Easter Monday. Riding Engagements. Riverton riding engagements include:—W. Hillis: Sister Modesta, Knockadroleen. B. J. Langford: Sea Power. W. F. Ellis: Aurora Australis. Broke Down. Royal Lancer was lame after contesting the Wanganui Cup and is not likely to race over Easter. He has been allowed to drop out of all Saturday's engagements. Qualified. By winning the J. H. Williams Handicap at Addington on Saturday, Knave of Diamonds, qualified for the next New Zealand Trotting Cup. Emulous has also qualified for a 4.21 limit. Eastern Coin. Eastern Coin, winner of the Kurow Cup, is to be kept on the easy list for the next few weeks. He has been a useful horse this season, winning three races and being placed on several occasions. Real Chase. Real Chase will make his reappearance in public at Beaumont on Saturday. He has filled out a lot in the past few months and may develop into a useful performer during the winter months. Beaumont Meeting. Wingatui horses engaged at the Beaumont Racing Club's meeting will leave by train to-morrow. Transport arrangements for patrons include a bus service from Dunedin and special trains from Milton and Roxburgh both days.

Promising Novice. Alamode will be making his first appearance since joining G. A. McKay's stable when he takes his place in the Trial Handicap at Riverton. Early in the season this . Salmagundi gelding showed promise ■of developing into a good performer.Outstanding Record. T. J. Boyle, who will have the mount ou Lisheen in the Great Western, has an outstanding record in the race. During the last seven years Boyle has been victorious on five occasions and filled second place the last two years. Unlikely Starter. Southland reports state that all is not well with Noko and he is an unlikely starter in the Great Western. His stable mate, Lisheen, has made good progress in his preparation and will probably be a short-priced favourite on the day. Riverton Candidate. The Riccarton trainer, A. J. Griffin, was present at Wingatui yesterday morning and worked his steeplechaser, Roman Son. After racing at Oamaru on Saturday, Griffin brought his horse south to race in the steeplechases at Riverton, but broke the journey for a couple of days at "Wingatui.

Canterbury Fields. The fields for the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting have fined down considerably with the closing of the acceptances. The Great Easter Handicap still has 16 engaged, the absentees being:—Lance Wing, Gigli, Aurora Australis, Lady Nahleen, Double Cross, Periwig, Flying Orders, and Te Muka. Uncertain. Members of D. P. Wilson's privatelytrained team hold engagements at Riverton, lticcarton, and Beaumont during the week-end. The fact that K. Nuttall (who has been doing the stable's riding in recent weeks) has announced that he will attend the Beaumont meeting suggests that D. P. Wilson will take some of his horses there. Kurow Meeting. It was anticipated that the Kurow Jockey Club would show a small profit on its meeting last Saturday. Had the club been better favoured by the weather, it is possible it may have reached four figures. Five dividends exceeding double figures also helped to keep a lot of money out of circulation during the day. Riccarton Favourites. Da Vinci and Master Dash, who finished first and second over a mile in the Thompson Handicap at Trentham, are ruling favourites for the Great Easter Handicap. Wantwood and Pensacola are also among the fancied lot. The three-year-old Bruce and the Southland representative Signal Officer are attracting most aftontion in the Great Autumn Handicap. Rider for Great Coon. The Riccarton horseman, C. T. Wilson, is coming south for the first day of the Riverton meeting. He has been engaged to ride J. A. Rowland's representatives, including Great Coon, in the Riverton Cup. Wilson has ridden previous winners of the cup in First Song (1935), Last Refrain (19,'57), Wild Career (1940), and Secret Flight (1942). Wild Career won two Riverton Cups, and the year that Wilson rode him he put up a track record of 2.6 4-5. From Western Australia. Accompanied by Mr F. Tatlow, of Tasmania. Mr 11. M. Duncan, of Perth, was an interested visitor at Addington on Saturday. Mr Duncan, who recently won the West Australian Derby and the Sires' Produce Stakes with Dark David, a three-year-old black colt by Stormcloud from the New Zealand-bred mare Royal Doulton, by Jack Potts from Quality, is very impressed by the high standard of racing, and by the appointments at Adding-

ton. He rates Emulous as the best horse he has seen in action here, and the three-year-old colt, Sir Michael, has also impressed him. Plans for Easter. F. Shaw is taking three horses to Riccarton to-day. Lance Wing is the only one racing* on the first day, out the' other pair, Fine Night, arid Mediate, hold engagements on the concluding days. Siegform, from A. E. Didham's stable, is an acceptor, and will be accompanied by Money Bird, Amorlad, and Stagestruck. The latter trio will race only on the second and third days of the meeting. A second team, consisting of Dearo, Brockie, Foxchase, and Runaway, from this stable will race at Riverton. Other members of Didham's team which will race at Beaumont are King's Victory, Boloyna, Young Bob, Lord Roland, and Courtdress.
