DOGS SAVAGE SHEEP
VALUABLE LAMBS LOST
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 16. Four rams were killed and 12 others were torn about by dogs which worried a flock of Romney stud lambs grazing in an enclosure on Mount lloskill in the early hours of Monday morning. The sheep were the property of Mr C. A. Straka, of Waiwera, who has suffered a loss amounting to about £4OO.
Among the dead animals was one which took first prize for Romne.vs at both the AucMand and Waiwera shows this year. Mr Straka has about 117 lambs running on the property, which ho has been using since December. In their frenzy to get away from the dogs some of the sheep forced their way through the fences out on to the road. Mr Straka has been given permission by the authorities to employ a man to shoot stray dogs on sight, in order to prevent a repetition of the loss.
