JEWISH HUNGER-STRIKERS
EH ASS SUICIDE PLAN PROFESSOR USUI'S INTERVENTION (Rec. noon.) ROME, April 15. Intervention by Professor Laski prevented the execution of a mass suicide plan by the Jewish emigrants hungerstriking at Spezia. The first 10 volunteers were ready to carry out the plan when Professor, Laski intervened and promised to take the matter up with Mr Bevin. The volunteers agreed and the proposal was called off. A Jerusalem message reports' that 15 Jewish leadere hunger-striking in sympathy with the 1,200 Jewish emigrants detained at Spezia rejected an appeal by the two chief rabbis to call off the fast and preserve the sanctity of the Passover.
