BIG EXTENSION OF SYSTEM APPROVED COST OF £25,000,000 (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 16. . Extensions to the metropolitan electric railway system at a cost of about £25,000,000 exclusive of land resumptions have been approved by the State Cabinet Work will begin immediately on. the huge task, which will occupy seven years. The scheme embraces the Eastern Suburbs railway', new services to the south-eastern and southern suburbs, and additional tracks between Sydenham and Redfern. It involves the laying of 18 miles of track, and the provision of underground tubes to take the services clear of the city. The Eastern Suburbs route has been amended to take 'the line through the most densely populated areas. The previous plan was approved in 1915.
