RACE AND PICNIC TRAINS
NO EXTENSION OF FACILITIES RESOLUTION BY OVER-WORKED GUARDS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 15. Wellington district railway guards to-day carried the following resolution at a well-attended meeting:—" That, having regard to the long hours worked without any respite by a depleted staff, we wish to register, an emphatic protest at any proposal to extend the facilities for the public to attend race meetings, picnics, etc., on Saturdays -and Sundays. " We resent anv attempt made to add to the already heavy burden on the operating staff, and call on the administrative officers of the department to reduce considerably the already over-weighted Saturday and Sunday train services, abolishing such luxury traffic as race and picnic trains on Sat--1 urdays and Sundays."
