Mr J, T. Leech left yesterday for Napier, where he will judge the vocal music at the competitions festival. Dr W. A. Riddell, the Canadian High Commissioner, is expected to leave New Zealand in May to take a, professional appointment at the University of Toronto. Major-general H. K. Kippenberger, D.S.O. and bar, and Mrs Kippenberger' are expected to arrive at Wellington on April 27. They are travelling on the Athlone Castle. Reference was made at the monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council last night to the death of the Mayor of West Harbour (Mr E. J. Taylor). Councillors stood in silence as a mark of respect, and it was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to the widow and family. At this morning's meeting of the Otago Education Board reference waa made to the death of Mr J. Shepherd, ■a former member of the board, and a motion of condolence with his relatives was passed. The Bishqp of Dunedin has appointed Mr Allan Norman Haggitt Chancellor of the Diocese of Dunedin, in succession to the late Mr J. A. Cook. The office of chancellor was held from 1881 to 1897 by the late Mr B. C. Haggitt, father of the newly appointed chancellor. The Port Line. Limited, announces that Mr N. D. Binnie, its New Zealand manager, has been appointed to the local board of the company, which now consists of Messrs Warwick Gregory and D. F. Middleton. both resident in Sydnev. and N. D. Binnie, of Wellington. Mr Binnie will continue to net as New Zealand manager. Mr W.
