DELAY IN TRANSPORT OF WIVES FROM ENGLAND SYDNEY, April 14. Carrying banners reading " No boats, no votes," andl "Wives not promises," 50 men wearing R.A.A.F. uniforms, demonstrated when Mr Chifley left Sydney on the first stage of his flyingboat journey to. England. A deputation told Mr Chifley that the wives of servicemen of every other country were being given rapid transport to their husbands' homes, Australian wives of American servicemen in particular. There were approximately 1.800 wives and at least 500 fiancees of Australian soldiers still in England. Mr'Chifley promised to do his best to get the wives to Australia.
