"CHAPEL" DINNER
CENTENARY IN PRINTING TRADE (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 25. The centenary of the " chapel,'' comprising the mechanical staffs of the ' Sydney Morning Herald,' who are members of the Printing Industry Employees' Union of Australia, was celebrated at a dinner. The word "chapel " is as old as the printing industry itself. In 1471 Caxton first set up a press in one of the chapels of Westminster Abbey. Subsequently the printers' workrooms became known as chapels. Now the word applies to associations of printing craftsmen, of whom the president is known as the " father of the chapel."
