LABOUR PARTY MEETING
The annual meeting of the Isortheast Valley branch of the Labour Party was held in the local hall last Wednesday, with an excellent attendance of members. The chairman, Mr Braid, on presenting the annual report and balance sheet, expressed satisfaction at the rapid increase in membership, together with'the financial position of the branch. With the assistance and cooperation of the local M.P., Mr Walls, some local improvements had been effected, which represented unproved roading, lighting, public telephone box, etc., in the district. Thanking Mr Walls and the various snb-coLnnittoes. the chairman then made reference to the preparatory work of the small committee set up to inquire into ways and means of organising some form of welcome home to returned se/ricj Personnel. He urged the members as individuals' to give their fullest support to a worthy cause. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mr Braid (reelected),; secretary - treasurer, Mr Heafey (re-elected); vice-chairman, Mr A. Scoones. An executive and various sub-committees were also elected. After enrolment of 41 new members, the meeting closed.
