CRICKET ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF COMMITTEE Mr W. S. Armitage presided over a meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Cricket Association which was held last night. It was decided that the hours of play in the match between Mamototo and a metropolitan eleven, which is to be played at Carisbrook on February 19 and 20, should be 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, with a luncheon interval - from 12.30 p.m. to 1.15 p.m. Mr W. A. Hadlee suggested that programmes containing particulars of the teams and interesting facts about the players should- be published for the forthcoming visit of 'the Australian team.—lt was decided to write to the New Zealand Cricket Council asking if they intended to take any steps in this matter, and a sub-committee was formed to make .the preliminary arrangements provided a favourable reply was received from the council. Mi: S. F. Duncan, referring to the criticism which, he said, had been levelled at the captain of the Otago team (Mr L. D. Smith) regarding tlw tactics employed in the match against. Canterbury, said that he considered it only fair to say that this matter of tactics had been previously discussed and a plan decided upon. Remarks concerning what some had thought was the over-use of water in the preparation of the wicket for the Canterbury match also caused soma discussion, but it was agreed that the condition commented upon might well have been caused by " sweating " due to the covering of the wicket. It waa unanimously agreed that the wicket had been properly prepared.
