OTAGQ CHAMPIONSHIPS RESUMED The first Otago cycling championship meeting since 1941 was held at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association. Twenty competitors, including 12 visiting riders, participated, but a fairly stiff breeze from a south-easterly quarter militated against good times. The well-known local rider, R. Wil-son-Pyne, took the two principal events on the programme, the 500 metres sprint championship, and the 10 miles paced championship". Fortunes in the distance race flutuated after half the distance had been covered. The original field of 11 starters had dwindled to six, and the pacemakers were maintaining a good pace. "At the beginning of the second last lap Flowers took fhe lead from McDonald and endeavoured to open up a gap, but Wilson-Pyne, who had been well placed throughout the race, sprinted and won convincingly from Harris and Matheson, with McDonald fourth.
