CROQUET CHAMPIONSHIPS
YOUNG PLAYER'S SUCCESS (P.A.) TIMARU, January .25. One of the outstanding figures in the Dominion croquet tournament has been the 20-ycar-old Eastbourne player, Ashley Heenan, who has reached the semi-final of the Men's Singles, the fourth round of the Open Championship, and with Mrs A. S. Clark (Christchurch) the fourth round of the first life Championship Doubles. In the third round of the Open Singles Heenan defeated the veteran, A. G. F. Ross (Christchurch). Ross won the first game 26-2, but in the second game Heenan had a good break and ultimately won 26-18. In the final game Heenan won 26-19. Heenan and Ross met again in the second round of the Men's ' Championship. The youger player hit out with great confidence and played ,well to win 26-3, 26-22. ■'•■' C. Bryan (Lower Hutt) was put out in the,semi-final by W. S. Beamish (Christeliurch^26-16, 26-3. The Level singles was won by Mrs A. 11. Rawlinson (Methven), who defeated Mrs T. Knowles (Timaru) 12-26, 26-17, 26-21. .
