CRITICISM OF AUSTRALIAN CONSTITUTION (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 24. It was absurd to hesitate about extending Federal powers in peace time, said Sir Isaac Isaacs, former GovernorGeneral of Australia, and one of the founders and framers of the Federal Constitution. Only by giving the Commonwealth real power to govern centrally could Australia take her place among the great nations, he said. The proposed referendum should : be above party politics. The world's social structure had altered so vastly since the original Constitution was framed that a national Parliament under present powers was unable to meet all contingencies. In the realm of industrial relations, the Constitution' was outdated. No business men would! pursue methods of 46 years ago.
