The Governor of Bombay, Sir John Colville, went to police., headquarters and had a conference with police officers on the means of restoring peace in the city, says Reuter's correspondent. Tlie police state that only one volley was fired in the Girguam area, after which the crowd broke up. A 13-vear-old boy was seriously wounded by a bullet. The crowds in this area, as well as stoning the trams, placed road blocks on the tram tracks along a mile stretch of road, and stoned fire engines called to extinguish a 'blazing tram. Traffic signs were torn up and smashed. The Associated Press correspondent says- pickets roving the streets caused traffic jams wherever they found a spot not controlled by the police. People on the pavements are taking up the pickets' .slogan, " Down with repression." \ ( There was a significant meeting in the fire-gutted ruins of the Communist Party headquarters between Congress and Communist Party leaders, who have long been estranged. The disturbances spread to Botnbay's congested mill area in the northern part of the city, three miles from the scene of the earlier troubles, says Reuter's correspondent. Three hundred men attacked mill workers when they came out for the midday recess. The workers at three other mills did not report for work. The police used tear gas to break up the crowds this afternoon._ A police officer opened fire with his revolver when a crowd attaqked the living..quarters of the Indian police.
