DEMAND IN AUSTRALIA (Rec. 1 p.m.) j MELBOURNE, January 24. Federal Ministers and representatives of the Australasia Council of Trades Unions . met in Melbourne to-day to discuss iegal aspects on the introduction by legislation of a 40-hour week. It is officially denied that the council threatened to call a nation-wide 24hour stoppage on the 40-hour-week issue. The unions are still demanding direct action..
