BREAKING OF THE DROUGHT
MORE BEER FOR AUSTRALIANS SYDNEY, January 24. An increase of 25 per cent, in the beer allowance for the next three months was announced to-day by the Minister for Trade and Customs, Senator Keane. The actual increase is contingent on the breweries' ability to supply the beer, but indications are that sufficient stocks are now on hand. Senator Keane said that he could give no assurance of a general lifting of the beer rationing, though the position was continually under review. While the barley supply was improving, there was a shortage of hops due to the drought in Tasmania.
