4,750-GUINEA FILLY

NATIONAL YEARLING SALES N.Z. AND AUSTRALIAN RECORD AVERAGE SETS NEW HIGH (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 24. A NewVZealand and Australian record price for a yearling filly at auction was secured on the final day of the national sales at Trentham to-day, when a commissioner, acting on behalf of a Melbourne buyer, paid 4,750 gs for a filly by Coronach from Princess Ball, bred by Mr W. R. Stead, of the Sasanof Stud, Hastings. The bidding on this filly opened at 500 gs, and after several buyers had exhausted their reserves she was finally knocked down amid great enthusiasm at 4,750g5, which was I,ooogs more than the previous New Zealand record established by a Foxbridge—Ann Acre colt on the first day of the sales. The record-priced filly's dam, Princess Ball, by ißoydon from Lady Ball, is a half-sister to La Moderne, winner of the New Zealand St. Leger, and Gay Ballerina, a high-class performer both in Now Zealand and Australia, and she come 6 from the same family as Horoscope, Gay Son, Gayest Son, Delight, Cimabuej and Client. The Australian record price for a filly is 4,500g5,' which was paid for the Golden Sovereign—Feminist filly at the Sydney Sales in 1944. <The second highest price was 3,500g5, which Mr J. A. Mitchell, of Santa Rosa Stud, Longburn, paid for a Nightmarch—Praise filly bred by Mr Alfred Louisson, of Ladbrooks Stud, Canterbury. Austin, as agent for an Australian buyer, paid for a full brother to (Ramicourt (Lang Bian ■—High Art), bred at Karamu Stud.
