40-HOUR WEEK—WOMEN PROTEST.
STOP PRESS
Resolutions protesting against Saturday closing were passed at a large meeting of women’s organisations in the Town Hall, Auckland, to-day. A resolution was also carried demanding the representation of women on the Arbitration Court when that court was deciding matters which concerned women and their place in the community. It was stressed that there was a 40-hour week for everyone but women.—Press Association. DAMAGED COLLIER. The Union Company’s collier Ivarepo, which was damaged when she struck The Steeples off Cape Foulwind on Tuesday, is now proceeding under easy steam to Wellington, accompanied by the Wellington tug Toia. It was at first
intended to call at Nelson for temporary repairs, but with an improvement in the weather the collier will now go direct to Wellington, where she is expected to arrive this evening.—Nelson Press Association
