TOTE. TURNOVER IN ENGLAND
. DISTRIBUTION OF PROFITS LONDON, Jan. 22. The totalisator turnover in England in 1945 was £7,142,995 for only 170 days of racing, compared with the record of £9,930,482 in 1938 with 535 days of racing, announced Sir Reginald Blair, chairman of the Racehorse Betting Control ■ Board. The totalisator gross profit in 1945 was approximately £600,000, of which £200,000 was available for distribution, after the deduction of taxation and other provisions. This was the largest amount ever distributed. It was suggested that £96,000 should be provided for the rehabilitation of racecourses, £66,000 for ihe reduction of the cost of travelling racehorses and additional prize money, £20,000 to assist horse breeding and veterinary science, and £IB,OOO for additional administrative expenses. '
