STILL IN ROADSTEAD
THE DAMAGED COLLIER HEAVY SWELL ON WESTPORT BAR (P.A.) WESTPORT, January 24. The Union Company's collier Karepo, which was holed forward as the result of striking on the outer rock of The Steeples, off Cape Foulwind, on'Tuesday afternoon, is still lying at anchor in the roadstead. It was hoped to bring the vessel into Westport on Wednesday afternoon, but a heavy swell on the bar and a strong run in the Buller River after the overnight storm made it inadvisable to attempt the bar ingThe same applied to early tide this morning, but the sea has moderated, and it should be possible'to berth the damaged vessel on this afternoou's tide. The Karepo is down at the head, due to water in the forward hold, but the pumps have been able to cope with it. The Union Company's Gabriella stood by the Karepo all night in the roadstead. ■ The Wellington Harbour Board's tug Toia arrived this morning, and is also standing by. She will assist, if needed, to bring the Karepo in this afternoon', provided the bar tests are satisfactory.
