QUESTION OF TRANSPORT TO STATES ' PROCEDURE SET OUT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 23. An announcement has been made by the American Army authorities in New Zealand concerning the wives of American servicemen who are still awaiting transportation. Recent United States War Department directives, it is stated, make it imperative that servicemen, whether now discharged or still on, active service, must make a writton request through military channels that their dependents in New Zealand should be furnished with Government transportation to a specific inland address in the United States. Members or ex-members of the army should forward such requests to the commanding officer, South Pacific Base Command, Army Post Office 502. caro of the Postmaster, San Francisco. Members or ex-members of the Navy or Marine Corps should address their requests to the Commander, ( South Pacific, Navy 131, care of Fleet Post Office, San Francisco. Those wives who have New Zealand passports in their possession or have been instructed by the United States Army authorities _ that a New Zealand passport is to be issued to them in the near future, need not communicate with their husbands for requests for transportation, as requests have been received either by the American Consul or the United'States Army authorities. Wives falling into this category, however, should write to Messrs Henderson and MacFarlane, Quay street. Auckland, in order that their names may be placed on the priority list for ii transportatoin passport and an exit, permit. Birth and marriage certificates and the birth certificates of any children should be presented to this shipping company at the same time Wives not certain of their status in respect to the foregoing should write to Warrant-officer Dowell at the United States Joint Purchasing Board.
