AMATEUR CYCLING
OTAGO CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the recent monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, the following events were decided upon to be competed for at the Otago championships at the Caledonian track on Saturday, February 2:—Senior: 500 metres sprint, 1,000 metres time trial, 10 miles paced. Junior: Half-mile, .five-mile paced. It was decided that, owing to the small number of junior competitors in Otago and Southland at the present time, there should be five competitors or no event. With reference to the conference to be held at Wanganui at the same time as the New Zealand track championships, it was decided to call a conference in Dunedin of representatives of Southand and Otago clubs, to be held after the Otago championships, at which matters relating to the New Zealand Council would be discussed. As there were a number of country sports clubs again holding cycling events on their programmes, it was decided to write to them pointing out the danger of holding sports for which a permit for cycling races had not been obtained, and a-» which the future of a registered competitor may be jeopardised.
