NAVY LEAGUE SEA CADETS TRAINING ON OLD FERRY STEAMER.—The Waireka, once a familiar sight on Otago Harbour, and now at permanent anchor, has become a bustling ship where young seamen are undergoing a varied training. (1) Under the direction of a pettyofficer a party of cadets scrub down the upper deck. (2) Cadet Barnhill, of the Auckland Division, quartermaster of the ship, writes up the log. (3) Cadet-signalman R. Parrot, Canterbury Division, heaving the lead. (4) Cadet P. O. Keane, Otago Division, being hoisted up foremast in the bosun's chair, preparatory to striking the topmast. (5) Naval sailing gig going about to approach the lower boom.
